CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On Friday and Saturday, the High Point University women's track and field team headed south for a meet hosted at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. The team participated in the Charlotte Invitational across both days.
At the meet, two Panthers won their respective events to take home first-place.
Ashlyn Giles has been unstoppable in the throwing events. In two out of her three events she placed first, the shot put and discus, winning her seventh shot put title this outdoor season. In shot put she threw 15.88m and in discus she threw 50.07m. She also participated in the hammer throw and placed sixth with a personal best throw 50.07m.
Emily Romano competed in the pole vault and won the event with a 4.11m clear to win her second first-place title this season.
On the track Friday evening,
Olivia Purdy posted a new personal best in the 5000m open with a 17:59.70 time.
Charli Montalvo was the lone Panther to race in the 1500m invite and recorded a season-best 4:38.83 time for a top 10 finish.
Starting the meet off on Saturday on the track, the 4x100m relay team recorded a 45.15 time to finish in second place.
Gianna Paul raced in the 100m hurdles and placed fourth with a 13.69 time.
Kaia Putman followed up with an 11.93 time in the 100m dash. She went on to compete in the 200m and clocked a season-best 24.09 time for eighth place.
Wrapping up the day in the field events on Saturday, Paul jumped 5.89m in the long jump to earn third place.
Along with Giles,
Vanessa Kobialka threw in the discus and placed third with a 48.31m throw.
