CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two High Point University men's soccer players earned weekly honors on Monday as
Brendan Krueger was tabbed Big South Conference Offensive Player of the Week and
Josh Caron was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office.
Krueger scored a goal in each match of No. 9 High Point's unbeaten week against No. 10 West Virginia and Longwood. The senior netted his first goal of the season with a sixth-minute equalizer in Tuesday's top-10 matchup, then added another in the 18th minute of Sunday's win at Longwood. He totaled two goals on four shots, with three on target, in 134 combined minutes.
Caron recorded a career-high seven saves at No. 10 West Virginia and posted a shutout against Longwood. The redshirt junior goalkeeper faced 17 shots against the Mountaineers, making five saves in the first half and two in the second, including a one-on-one stop in the 75th minute to preserve a 2-2 tie. He then posted his third clean sheet of the season on four shots faced against Longwood.
These are the first weekly honors for Krueger and Caron as they join
Daniel Lugo,
Mo Guettel,
Lukas Kamrath and
Prosper Adagani as previous winners.
The Panthers are unbeaten through nine games (6-0-3) and travel this weekend to UNC Asheville on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.
