HIGH POINT, N.C. –
Zach Haines and the High Point University men's soccer team has hired two new staff members. Johnny Fenwick was added as Director of Player Development and Taylor Johnson will act as the Director of Program Development.
"As college sports continue to evolve, and the NCAA undergoes a great deal of change - we want to position our program to evolve as well," Head Coach
Zach Haines said. "And to be proactive and prepared to further support our student-athletes and the sustainability of our program at the highest level. This led us to two very important staff additions with a Director of Program Development and a Director of Player Development. The first will provide support to the big picture growth and sustainability of our program to operate at a power conference level for years to come. The second will provide support in enhancing the student-athlete experience for everyone on our roster. Taylor and Johnny are absolutely a perfect fit for these two roles. We are thrilled to have them join us and look forward to a very positive impact."
The native of England, Fenwick was a 2018 HPU graduate who played four years of soccer as a Panther before signing a pro contract with tier two club San Antonio FC of the USL Championship league. Fenwick just recently hung up the boots after playing seven years professionally for six different clubs.
During his time in the Purple and White, Fenwick helped the Panthers to their first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2018. That year, HPU won its second straight Big South Regular Season Championship and reached as high as ranked 12th in the national polls.
Growing up in Greensboro, Johnson will be returning to the triad as the Director of Program Development to help continue to grow the HPU men's soccer program to operate at a power conference level for years to come. The 2007 UNC Greensboro graduate played four years of Spartan soccer before coaching at various youth levels. For 12 years, Johnson coached in club, ODP, high school, and was a college volunteer. He also took on fundraising and revenue generation roles across a variety of non-profits, including higher education, collegiate athletics, K-12 institutions, and youth and professional sports organizations.
Fenwick and Johnson look to continue the storied success of the Panthers as they add two unique roles to help further the program as collegiate athletics continues to change.
