CHARLOTTE, N.C. — High Point University men's golfers Fred Roberts IV and Grady Newton were honored with Big South Conference end-of-year awards. The conference publicly announced the honorees on Thursday morning as the league's head coaches voted on them. 

At the Big South Conference Championship in Fripp Island, S.C., Fred Roberts IV placed fifth and was named to the Big South All-Championship Team. He also received an All-Conference Honorable Mention for his performance this past season. He excelled in the classroom and was selected for the All-Academic Team.

Roberts IV, a native of Richmond, Ga., is not new to success in the classroom. This past summer, he received the Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars. Roberts IV battled his way into the top 5 with a competitive field in match play. Roberts IV placed third at the Wexford Intercollegiate, shooting two-under-par, while his scoring average was 74.00, 16th in the conference, leading into the championship.

A North Carolina native from Winston-Salem, Newton earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. He tied for ninth in stroke play with an impressive 4-under par in round two of the Big South Championship. Newton placed seventh in the first fall tournament at the Bryan National Collegiate, shooting four-under-par. This performance put him in the top under-par scores for the conference as he held the league's 18th-best scoring average (74.09).
