BOSTON, Mass. - CollegeInsider.com has announced the finalists for the 2024-25 Hugh Durham award, naming High Point University Men's Basketball Head Coach
Alan Huss to the list. The award is presented annually to the top mid-major head coach in college basketball.
Coach Huss guided High Point to its second consecutive Big South Regular Season title and was named the program's first-ever two-time Big South Coach of the Year after posting a 26-5 overall record with a 14-2 league record. The 26 regular season wins is the most in program history and tied the Big South regular season wins record with Coastal Carolina's 2010-11 season (26-4). The Panthers also set the best win percentage in Division I era with an 88% in conference play and an 84% regular season.
Since the middle of the 2024-25 season, the Panthers have remained in the Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 for 32 consecutive weeks which ranks as the second longest streak in Big South history. High Point reached as high as No. 5 on February 5, 2024 and currently sit at No. 10 as of March 3, 2025. High Point has also received a vote in the Associated Press Poll four times during the season, receiving as many as four votes in the poll on March 3, 2025.
In the Kenpom and NET rankings, High Point has consistently ranked in the Top 100 and currently sits at No. 88 in Kenpom and No. 86 in the NET rankings. Overall in NCAA statistical categories, the Panthers rank 7th in the country in field goal percentage (49.41%), 14th in effective field goal percentage (.566), 39th in bench points (27.19 ppg), 41st in free throw attempts per game (22.0), 39th in free throw percentage (76.69%), 16th in free throws made per game (16.0), 34th in rebound margin (30.8), 18th in scoring offense (82.4 ppg), and 9th in winning percentage (26-5, 83.9%).
Coaches of teams in the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, ASUN, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Coastal Athletic, CUSA, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, MEAC, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, SWAC, Summit, Sun Belt, WAC, West Coast.
The recipient of the award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com.
The 2025 award will be announced in San Antonio, TX, site of the men's Division I Basketball Championship.
