HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University is always looking to enhance the mission of providing an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people. With over 750 athletes and approximately 30 teams in Intercollegiate Club Sports, the commitment continues with the addition of men's and women's Wrestling to the Intercollegiate Club Sports (ICS) lineup.
As the popularity of wrestling grows nationwide at both the collegiate and high school levels, HPU recognizes the opportunity to provide student-athletes with a competitive and developmental platform. Joining the National Collegiate Wrestling Association, HPU joins schools from around the country and will compete regionally and nationally. The new wrestling programs will offer students the chance to engage in high-level competition while embracing the university's values.
"We are thrilled to expand our Intercollegiate Club Sports offerings with the introduction of men's and women's wrestling,"
Dr. Stephen Denny, Intercollegiate Club Sports (ICS) Athletic Director at High Point University said. "Wrestling is a riveting sport that will mirror competitive NCAA programs. I am excited for our coach and new athletes to be the inaugural team for this program."
Leading the new wrestling program is head coach, Kelly Anundson. Anundson is a Nevada state champion, two-time collegiate All-American wrestler, NJCAA 4th place national finisher, and NCAA 7th place finisher.
