Having yet to secure a win this season, the High Point University Women's Club Soccer team looked to right the ship against cross-town rivals North Carolina A&T at the Vert on Saturday afternoon. After an initial tense fifteen minutes, the flood gates opened and HPU poured in three goals before half time. Sophomore Madison Smith posted two and freshman Ana Dwyer added the third.
NC A&T came out swinging in the second half, nearly pushing the ball over the goal line on several occasions. Timely goalkeeping from senior Alexis Newton kept the ball out of the net and in play for the Panthers to counter attack and score their fourth goal—buried, again, by Smith. This notched Smith's first hat-trick for the Panthers. It was this performance that resulted in Smith being named the teams "Swole-Daddy" of the game. This award is given out to the team-voted best player on the field.
The Women's Club Soccer team will take the next few weeks off as the players return home and abroad for Spring Break. Their next game will be away at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC on the 17
th of March.
