Dr. Stephen Denny was appointed the Athletic Director of Intercollegiate Club Sports at High Point University in December 2024.
Dr. Denny has had an impressive career in organizational leadership for over two decades. His roles in institutional administration and business consulting have seen him lead transformational development by defining the gaps between ordinary and extraordinary with expertise in cultural leadership, talent recruitment and retention, and empowering professionals to achieve high performance levels.
In private education, Dr. Denny served as a Director of Athletics, moving into Institutional Advancement, and eventually serving as Head of School. His visionary leadership fostered a growth mindset and transformative experiences within several organizations. Dr. Denny's proficiency in athletic management is evident through his strategic guidance, fiscal responsibility, fundraising via strategic partnerships, and unique brand marketing. These skills have been instrumental in developing championship level programs in three states and producing the winningest athletic departments in the state across all women's and men's sports.
Dr. Denny was born and raised in High Point, N.C. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from UNC Greensboro, an M.S. in Sports Management from HPU (2007), and has completed doctoral work in Organizational Leadership at Southeastern University in Florida.
He started his career at Wesleyan Christian Academy as Athletic Director and basketball coach and is excited to serve at his Alma Mater, High Point University. Dr. Denny and his wife, Becca, are proud parents of three boys: Isaac (and his wife Allie), Micah, and Thaddeus.
