VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – In his first Division I NCAA Indoor Championships,
Cole Wilson from the High Point University men's track & field team represented HPU in the heptathlon, along with the top 16 heptathletes in the country. Wilson became High Point's first-ever combined events athlete to compete on the National stage and finished 14
th overall, earning his first, Second Team All-American honor.
"Cole gave a great competitive effort at his first NCAAs and represented HPU as our first combined event athlete at this indoor championships," Coach Hillary Holmes stated. "Although not the goal performance this weekend, he competed hard and is not one to settle. I am extremely proud of Cole and the entire season he had - improving his score by over 350 points (5772), great individual event bests, Big South champion, and NCAA qualifier. Looking forward to more goals to come!"
Following the first day of the two-day meet, Wilson sat in 10th place after competing in four of the seven events including the 60m dash, long jump, shot put and high jump. His best event on the first day was the shot put, where he placed sixth with a 13.64m throw.
Kicking off the second day, Wilson clocked a new personal best in the 60m hurdles with an 8.32 time. He finished out the heptathlon with the pole vault and 1000m events to place 14th in the competition.

As a team, High Point will host the Bob Davidson Team Challenge at Vert Stadium on March 21-22. HPU will also have athletes competing at the 49er Classic Combined Events beginning on Thursday March 20.
