HIGH POINT, N.C. – For the fourth consecutive week, the High Point University women's basketball team is ranked in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25, moving to No. 8 with 489 points. The poll is voted on by mid-major women's basketball coaches and was announced on Tuesday evening.
The top-10 ranking is the the highest women's mid-major ranking in Big South Conference history since remaining in the poll last week at No. 7.
High Point has continued its program-best 11-2 record, averaging 77.2 points per game while shooting 47 percent from the field and holding opponents to just 62.2 points per contest. HPU leads the Big South in field goal percentage at 47 percent, while limiting the opponent to only 38 percent.
The Panthers' impressive 13-game stretch is the best start for a Big South women's basketball squad since UNC Asheville began the season at 9-1. HPU is just the sixth Big South team to do so.
HPU's early success stems from contributions up and down the roster and has been powered by several standout performances.
Junior guard Macy Spencer has broken out as one of the nation's top shooters and currently ranks T-23 in the NCAA in three-pointers made (36), while leading the Big South in triples made and points per game with 17.6. As a team, the Panthers rank 34th nationally in field goal percentage.
Graduate student Aaliyah Collins has also been a major key to High Point's fast start, averaging 17.0 points per game, leading the Big South with 62 assists, and a conference-best .532 field goal percentage.
High Point opens conference play when they host UNC Asheville on December 31 at 2:00 p.m.
