First-Year Head Coach Flynn Clayman Awarded Field of 68 Mid-Major Coach of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – After just one week into the Flynn Clayman era, the first-year head coach has already caught national attention. The Field of 68 awarded Coach Clayman, the head coach of the High Point University men's basketball team, as its Mid-Major Coach of the Week.
 
The Panthers opened the season with two dominant showings, picking up a win over Furman 97-71 on opening night in the Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon and a 127-52 win over Averett in the home opener for homecoming weekend.
 
Coach Clayman has emphasized the importance of the team's defense this season which has already proven evident in last week's contests. High Point picked up 39 steals, forced 52 turnovers and converted on 61 points across both games.
 
Along with the lock down defense, the Panthers play at a fast pace, taking advantage of easy points in transition. Against Averett, 56 of the 127 points came off transition baskets.
 
With an efficient offense, High Point is shooting 63.9% from the field, 45.9% from three-point range and 67.3% from the free throw line. In the NCAA, the Panthers rank in the Top 25 in multiple statistical categories including, 1st in fast break points (35.00), 1st in steals (19.5), 4th in turnovers forced per game (26.00), 7th in effective field goal percentage (70.3%),and 13th in assist/turnover ratio (2.44).
 
High Point returns to action on Tuesday, November 11 at the Qubein Center for a matchup against Jacksonville University at 7:00 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the teams since December of 2000.
