CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two High Point University men's soccer players earned weekly honors for the second consecutive week as
Daniel Lugo was tabbed Big South Conference Offensive Player of the Week and
Beau Yantz was named Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
The duo helped the Panthers stay unbeaten through 10 games (7-0-3) and undefeated in conference (3-0) while outscoring Big South opponents 10-1 over three matches.
Lugo scored a goal and assisted on the game's first tally — Yantz' first goal of the season — in leading the Panthers to a 4-0 victory at UNC Asheville on Saturday. It was his second three-point performance of the season, while his goal in the 66th minute was his Big South and team-leading seventh of the year.
Yantz spearheaded High Point's defense in holding Asheville to no shots on goal, and just three total shots overall on Saturday, including none in the opening half. Yantz helped HPU to its fourth clean sheet and second straight while also contributing his first score at 15:37 for the eventual game-winner. It was the second time he has scored at UNC Asheville with the first being in 2023.
It's the first weekly honor for Yantz and Lugo's second this season as they join
Mo Guettel,
Lukas Kamrath,
Brendan Krueger,
Josh Caron, and
Prosper Adagani as previous winners.
