Danielle Jensen Racing at Panorama Farms Invite

Women's Cross Country Jonah Alewine

Panthers Place 5th at Panorama Farms Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA.—  The High Point University women's cross country team competed in the Panorama Farms Invite on Friday morning and placed 5th overall. The Panthers finished just three points behind Ohio University (113-116).

"A major improvement, well, a very simple one, was being able to plug Danielle Jensen into it. She was not racing with us before, so she's a huge addition, and she raced incredibly," Head Coach Remy Tamer said. "So, you know, hats off to her for having a very abbreviated buildup and still coming out here and taking chances. But across the board, Brianna [Malone] really went for it. I was very pleased with the confidence she has in herself right now, and she goes up to the front with a bunch of national qualifiers and All-Americans, and that's where she belongs, and I'm confident in the next four weeks she's going to be able to finish that. She's going to be able to finish that race when we come back here for regionals. She's going to be up there with them and also close. Olivia [Purdy], being our fifth lady today, did very well. She needs to work closing the gap here between four and five, but Charlie [Montalvo] and Alyssa [Hendrix] as well, like we know we left some points on the table. It wasn't a bad race, but it certainly wasn't amazing, and I think that more than anything, it gave everybody a chance to get the course down, feel confident with where we are, but also build a bit of a, 'now we know what our job is'. It clarifies our job, and so next time we come back here, these ladies are going to be really fired up for it."

The Panthers were once again led by junior Brianna Malone, who finished with a time of 20:29.3 in sixth-place. Malone's 3k split was tied for first-place at 10:08.6. She continued to look dominant just as she has the entire season.

High Point saw the return of sophomore Danielle Jensen, who made her season debut in the meet. The second-year runner narrowly missed the top-20 at 21:02.8. Her 21.02.8 time placed her 21st overall and was an individual personal record.

Just behind Jensen was Alyssa Hendrix, who finished 22nd and just under a second behind (21:03.7). Charli Montalvo completed the race with a 36th overall finish and a time of 21:29.5. Montalvo was just 0.9 seconds away from having a top-30 3k split.

Freshman standout Olivia Purdy placed 54th overall with an official time of 21:54.3. Charlotte Heaton clocked in with a time of 22:09.5 and finished just in front of multiple runners from Elon and Big South Conference mate Charleston Southern.

Seniors Mikayla Moxley and Lauren Vossen completed the meet with times of 23:08.2 and 23:57.5, respectively. The Panorama Farms Invite also saw the return of Evie Wild from injury. Wild finished the race with an official time of 24:23.2.

Up Next: Postseason competition will begin for the Panthers as they head to Farmville, Va. for the Big South Conference meet on Friday, Oct. 31 in a Halloween showdown.
