HIGH POINT, N.C. - The High Point University men's soccer team is stoked and ready to get back to work after winning back-to-back Big South Championships with a highly-competitve 19 game slate.
The Panthers will face two NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago as well as two Power 5 programs. HPU will hit the road nine times while welcoming seven teams to Vert Stadium, including one away exhibition and two home scrimmages.
"We attempt every year to put together the strongest and most balanced schedule we can," HPU Men's Soccer Head Coach
Zach Haines said. "As many Top 25-50 games as we can get, quality home games, and then great in-state/regional rivalries to coincide with the Big South slate. This is the case for 2024, and we are excited about it. It is all about building toward the end of the season for postseason play, and this schedule will put us in an ideal position to keep getting better."
The 2023 Big South Conference Champions begin the season with three exhibition matches.The first is a trip to Furman University on August 10 followed by hosting Wofford on August 14. The Panthers will host their final match before the regular-season on August 17 at Vert Stadium against William Peace University during move in weekend.
High Point opens the 2024 slate with a road trip to a Power 5 opponent, NC State University (Aug. 22) before welcoming Davidson College (Aug. 27) for their home opener. On the last day of August, HPU will end the month at Virginia Commonwealth Universty (Aug. 31) before heading to face the 2020 National Champions and last years Sun Belt Tournament Champions, Marshall University (Sept. 6).
The Panthers will head home for three straight home games as they kick things off by hosting East Tennessee State University (Sept. 11) followed by Florida Gulf Coast University (Sept. 15).
Big South Conference play starts with a rematch of the Big South Tournament Championship as the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville come to Vert Stadium on HPU's family weekend (Sept. 20).
HPU will face its cross town rival as they head to UNCG (Sept. 24), before returning home to continue conference play against Radford (Sept. 28). The battle with the Phoenix continues as HPU will make the short drive to Elon (Oct. 1) before going down to Spartanburg to face Big South foe, USC Upstate (Oct. 5). A quick turnaround as Longwood comes to High Point (Oct. 11) before hitting the road again.
During fall break, HPU will make a trip north to face another NCAA Tournament team, University of Pittsburgh (Oct. 15). This will be the second time in program history the Panthers will match up with the Panthers of Pittsburgh. High Point will round out the regular-season with three conference games. Starting with a trip to Winthrop (Oct.18), followed by a meeting in Clinton, S.C. with Presbyterian (Oct. 26).
In the regular-season finale, the Panthers will host Gardner-Webb University (Nov. 1) and celebrate their seniors ahead of postseason play.
