Head Coach Joey Hammond: "What a performance by
Brett Wozniak and just when his club needed him the most. He commanded the strike zone and attacked hitters all day long with his all of his pitches! We knew it was important to grab momentum as early as possible and Konni (Durschlag) certainly delivered with a homer to start the game. From there, our offense was fantastic in working counts and getting their starter out of the game in four innings with 100 pitches. We are in position to accomplish what we set out to accomplish this weekend with a series victory tomorrow."
Brett Wozniak started game two and was dominant through eight innings as he finished only allowing six hits and holding the Bulldogs to no runs. Wozniak improved to a 4-1 record on the year.
Konni Durschlag got the Panthers rolling right off the bat as he sent a ball over the left field wall for a leadoff home run. His second long ball of the season.
High Point piled in three more runs in the top of the first to make it a 4-0 game off a pair of RBI singles from
Miggy Echazarreta and
Brett Ahalt.
Both arms started to settle down and put up a few zeros as the Panthers and the Bulldogs went scoreless for four innings.
The Panthers added four more runs in the sixth inning as
Eric Grintz sent one to left field with the bases juiced bringing two runner's home. Then a fielding error by the Asheville defense brought two more home to score to make it an 8-0 ball game.
Tyler Romanias came in to relieve Wozniak in the ninth. In his ninth appearance of the year, he was able to close out the game for the Panthers earning them the 8-0 win on Saturday afternoon.
Up Next: High Point will face the Bulldogs for the rubber match tomorrow at 12 p.m.
