Head Coach Lyndsey Boswell: "Really excited to get this win tonight in Maryland. Proud of the grit our defense showed tonight. They kept us in the game a few times during adverse times, and I'm really excited for the corner they turned together during this game. Always happy to be in Maryland with the support and alumni from the High Point community. Mount St. Mary's is a well-coached, tough team — happy to come away with a win tonight."
The Panther defense held the Mountaineers to a season-low six goals, which was also the lowest total HPU has allowed this season. Offensively, HPU started the night off hot, scoring four straight to take a 4-0 lead early. Maryland native
Jordan Miles netted a pair, while
Allie Connally and
Kay Rosselli had the other two.
Connally responded to the Mount's first goal with her second as she registered her first career multi-score game to take the 5-1 lead. The Mountaineers netted two more while
Shannon Smith scored a free position goal to make it 6-3 at the half.
The Mount out-scored the Panthers in the second half, 3-2, but goals by Rosselli and Miles — paired with the stifling HPU defense — in the final 30 minutes were enough to keep the Panthers on top. It was the senior Rosselli's second consecutive game with two or more goals, while Miles recorded her fourth game with three or more goals.
Sydney Martin had a team-high three caused turnovers, while
Gracie Vickery caused a career-high two turnovers. Goalkeepers
Joy Coffey and
Ava Welsh split time in the cage — with Coffey getting the start and win — as each allowed three goals and Welsh had seven of the 11 saves.
Mandy Brockamp also caused a pair of turnovers.
Rosselli won a career-high seven draw controls; meanwhile,
Esprit Cha had a career-high four ground balls as
Julia Dustin had a career-best three ground balls.
