HPU Women's Cross Country Finishes Ninth at the Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The High Point University women's cross country team achieved a remarkable top-10 finish at the Paul Short Run in Pennsylvania on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. Charlie Montavlo led the team as the Panthers' top finisher, securing a spot in the top 25.

High Point University finished an impressive ninth out of 44 teams, out-performing several Power 5 schools, including Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Rutgers, Maryland and Miami. This marks the Panthers' third consecutive week in the top 10, showcasing their strong performance this season.

Head Coach Remy Tamer: "Today's race highlighted the strength of our top runners, and I'm proud of how they performed under pressure. While it wasn't perfect and we have areas to improve before the championships, it was a positive step forward. Although we missed some opportunities, I believe that with continued effort, these women will be ready to perform when it counts. I'm also confident that our fifth runner will emerge and contribute to our scoring, helping elevate the team to a new level. A special shoutout to freshman Danielle Jensen for an impressive finish in her debut college race —she's proving to be a valuable asset. Charli Montalvo showed she can compete on a national stage, and Alyssa Hendrix and Brianna Malone are on the brink of breakthroughs. Together, those three are building something special this year. As a team, we'll keep pushing forward and striving for excellence."

Montavlo crossed the finish line first for the Panthers with a time of 20:41.5, marking her second consecutive week in the top 25.

Brianna Malone and Alyssa Hendrix ran closely together for much of the race, motivating each other to achieve top-50 finishes with times of 20:54.5 and 20:59.9, respectively. They came in as the second and third finishers for the Panthers.

Danielle Jensen made her debut in the Purple and White, finishing as the Panthers' fourth runner with a time of 21:08.7. This true freshman maintained her position within the pack throughout the race, closely trailing Malone and Hendrix.

Senior Anna Ritter completed her second race of the season as the fifth Panther to finish, clocking in at 22:09.4. Shauna Skow followed closely behind, finishing at 22:18.5 and staying with Ritter throughout the first two miles of the race.

Alice Jones finished as the seventh Panther, crossing the line with a time of 22:37.6. Mikayla Moxley followed closely behind, finishing at 23:21.5.

Freshman Reese Bradbury finished just behind Moxley, powering through the hills to clock in at 23:26.1. Senior Nikki Frail stayed with her pack for the entire race, crossing the finish line at 24:16.1.

UP NEXT: On Saturday, October 19, the Panthers head to Charlottesville, Va., for the Panorama Farms Invite.
