Score: High Point 61, Radford 65
Records: High Point (5-9, 0-1), Radford (5-10, 1-0)
Head Coach Chelsea Banbury: "I give Radford a lot of credit, they played very well. Ashlyn was excellent tonight; she shot the ball well and was able to attack and share the ball at the end. Disappointed with how it turned out. We didn't guard the three-point line very well. We played well for 32 minutes, and that last eight minutes hurt us."
Lauren Bevis led the team with 15 points in tonight's contest.
Faith Price trailed with 10 points. Both girls had clutch shots to keep HPU in the game.
The Panthers and the Highlanders kept the game close throughout the four quarters. By the end of the first quarter, HPU was up by three.
Amaria McNear had herself a half as she was able to make a few three pointers and drive to the paint to get buckets. McNear also leads the conference in blocks as she added another five to her number tonight. She tallied nine points from the field.
High Point went on a 7-0 run at the start of the second quarter. HPU was up 30-22 after Radford scored their first bucket in that time span.
With four seconds to go in the half,
Callie Scheier took possession of the ball from beyond the arc and drained it to give the team a one-point lead heading back to the locker room.
Radford quickly jumped out to a 42-37 lead early in the third quarter. Bevis was quick to make a stop to that as she drained a three pointer to bring it back to within two.
Nakyah Terrell was able to go for back-to-back layups to bring a four-point lead back to High Point.
At the end of the third quarter, the Panthers held a 55-48 lead.
Radford put an end to the Panthers scoring as they brought the score to within four in just four minutes of play into the last quarter. High Point could not put an end to Radford as the Panthers came up just short in the end off of a turnover to secure the win for the Highlanders.
Up Next: High Point will continue conference play as they head to Boiling Springs to take on Gardner-Webb on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m.
