Box Score HIGH POINT, N.C. — The High Point University baseball team returned to action with the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville on Friday night at Williard Stadium. After going extra innings with the Bulldogs, HPU came up short by one run in the 10th, 7-6.
Brett Ahalt put in work at bat going 3-for-6 on the day with three singles and an RBI, scoring two runs himself.
Brett Wozniak started on the mound for the Panthers and pitched 8.2 innings allowing four runs off eight hits with two strikeouts.

High Point punched early with two runs in the opening inning. Ahalt reached base on a single through the right side.
Patrick Matthews moved Ahalt after taking one for the team with a hit by pitch. Doing his job,
Cael Chatham's grounder to third base moved both HPU runners into scoring position. A shot by
Adam Stuart at the Bulldog's second basemen resulted in an error which allowed two runs to score for the Panthers.
Like the night before, UNC Asheville tacked on their first run with a single-run homer. A sacrifice fly to center field tied the game at two all in the top of the second.
The Panthers responded in the bottom of the second with four runs of their own. Three singles contribute to the three runs, as Ahalt knocked his second hit if the game (2-2) into left field. Three straight walks scored the fourth run to make it 6-2.
The Bulldogs knocked in a run, off a single and a double in the top of the sixth to make it 6-3 with the Panthers holding the lead.
UNC Asheville tied the game at six all in the top of the ninth, first scoring off a single through the right side. With bases loaded and two outs, the Bulldogs hit a shot down the left field line to score two.
Going extra innings, UNC Asheville took their first lead of the game with a solo home run over left field fence to make it 7-6 going into the bottom of the 10th. High Point registered one hit in the bottom of the ninth which was not enough to take the game.
