Box Score DURHAM, N.C. — The High Point University baseball team traveled to Durham, North Carolina to play the teams fifth ranked opponent this season. Site: Jack Coombs Field
Score: High Point 3, No. 20 Duke 11
Records: High Point 13-29, Duke 29-12

Striking first at the plate, High Point's Patrick Matthews hit a shot through the left side to get on base. Advancing to second base from Adam Stuart's ground out into shortstop's deep gap set him up in scoring position. Breaking loose on a steal to third base, a throwing error by the Blue Devil's catcher opened the opportunity for Matthews to go home. Panthers took the 1-0 lead after the top of the first.

After two strikeouts outs by starter Sean Duffy to get the first two outs of the game, Duke loaded the bases with a hit by pitch. Three, two-run singles to the outfield by the Blue Devils tacked on six runs for a 6-1 lead for the home field team. Carter Sheppard came in for Duffy on the mound and secured the third out with a hit to Stuart at shortstop for an easy toss over to Matthews at second.

Duke added a single run in the bottom of the third to go up 7-1. The Blue Devils followed up in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run homer and a sacrifice fly to extend their lead to 11-1.

In the top of the seventh, High Point added two runs with two singles through the gaps. A hit from Cole Singsank past the second basemen rounded Blake Sutton home after getting on with a walk. Josh Deslauriers kept the two out rally going with a hit through the left side gap to get the RBI.

High Point could not add any more runs in the final innings, falling short 11-3.

Up Next: The Panthers remain on the road for a doubleheader at Wake Forest on Sunday, April 30th, against Wofford College and Wake Forest. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. against Wofford, followed by the second game against Wake Forest at 5 p.m.
