CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The High Point University men's track and field team posted six personal bests at day two of the UVA Challenge.
Nick Lourenco and
Reid Holloway both improved their East Region standings in the pole vault as well.
Terris Burton II led three Panthers in the 400m dash, finishing 21
st in 48.83 seconds while
Aidan Britt was 25
th in 49.01 seconds.
Isaiah Muse also finished in 51.56 seconds.
Jake Tarosky was fourth in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, finishing in 9:15.40 while
Othmane El Gharissi and
Graham Ferguson both ran under 3:50.00 for personal bests in the 1,500m run. El Gharissi finished in 3:46.27 for 22
nd while Ferguson was 29
th in 3:47.18.
Ian Miller also finished 16
th in the 10,000m with a personal best time of 30:21.66.
Hunter Steinau and
Spencer Smucker finished the night in the 5,000m as Steinau ran a personal best time. His time of 14:24.24 was good for second place in the event while Smucker was 18
th in 14:50.72.
In field events,
Nick Lourenco and
Reid Holloway both went over five meters and posted personal bests in the pole vault to finish fourth and fifth, respectively. Lourenco was third at 5.10m while Holloway entered the East Region top-50 after clearing 5.00m.
Jackson Tuomey finished ninth in the invite section of the event, clearing 4.85m.
In the shot put,
Chris Van Niekerk was the runner-up with a toss of 55.40m while
Alex Hoffman threw for 42.53m. At the triple jump,
Larry Coaxum was 14
th with a mark of 14.50m while
Michael Henson was 18
th at 14.30m.
Up Next: HPU athletes are set to compete tomorrow in Charlottesville to round out the UVA Challenge. Field and track events are set to begin at noon on Saturday.
