Head Coach
Joey Hammond: I'm really proud of our guys, you know our pitchers did a phenomenal job. I can't say enough good things about
Brett Wozniak, it was awesome to see him come out and pitch with command and really give us the start that we needed. All our pitchers came in and really pounded the strike zone, they pitched aggressive and they set the tempo. They bought us time for the offense to get going"
The Panthers got off to a quick start, scoring a run in the opening inning after
Javon Fields got on with a hit by pitch. After stealing second successfully, a steal attempt over to third base led to a throwing error by the catcher to send Fields home.
NC A&T tied the game up in the top of the fifth off a double to right field. Getting the third out,
Blake Sutton threw down to third and sniped the Aggies runner stealing.
The Panthers opened things up in the bottom of the seventh. A single from
Cael Chatham through the right-side gap gave HPU the 2-1 edge. A walk added one run to make it 3-1. Keeping the runs rolling, Sutton sent a shot into left center field to clear the bases and score three runs and advance on a five-run lead.
Lucas Glover opened the top of the eighth and allowed no hits and no runs.
In the top of the ninth, the Panthers gave up one run off two hits after the Aggies knocked in a run with a hit off the center field wall.
Up Next: The Panthers will travel to Campbell for a weekend series in Buies Creek, North Carolina beginning on Friday night at 6 p.m. The next game will take place Saturday at 3:00 pm followed by a Sunday start at 2:00 pm.
