High Point, N.C. – Four High Point University men's decathlon athletes are through five events at the Meet of Champions.
Evan Mills sits in atop the standings after the first day's events with an 11-point lead.
The 100m dash was the first event of the day;
Felix LeBlanc ran the fastest time among Panther competitors, finishing in 11.35 seconds. Mills was next in 11.54 seconds while
Kolt Byers was the third HPU finisher in 11.78 seconds.
Eric Garguilo was sixth overall in 12.15 seconds.
Next up was the long jump where Mills was the Panther leader with a season-best 6.60m. LeBlanc and Byers both posted personal bests, finishing third (6.31m) and fourth (6.22m), respectively. Garguilo was sixth with a mark of 5.51m as well.
LeBlanc was the top finisher in the shot put by a meter, hitting 12.82m for a personal best. Byers and Mills finished third and fourth, respectively, as Byers posted 11.45m while Mills finished with a throw of 10.89m. Garguilo was sixth at 7.92m.
Byers and Mills finished 1-2 in the high jump at 1.98m and 1.92m while LeBlanc and Garguilo went 5-6 at 1.71m and 1.53m. Byers posted a season best and Mills finished with a personal best.
After a weather delay, Mills came back to win the 400m dash in 49.51 seconds, another personal best. LeBlanc also posted a personal record in 51.35 seconds, finishing third. While Byers was fourth (53.28) and Garguilo was fifth (57.41).
