High Point Drops Mid-Week Game at NC A&T in Extra Innings

Box Score HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point baseball traveled across town to play the North Carolina A&T State University in mid-week nonconference action. After leading through the second half of the game, the Aggies tied the game to go extra innings. NC A&T walked off 12-11 over the Panthers.

NC A&T punched first, placing runners on first and second from a single followed by a walk, a single through the left side gap rounded the runner on second home. The Aggies scored the teams second run with a sacrifice fly to take the 2-0 lead in the first inning.
 
High Point jabbed back with a run in the top of the second. Loading the bases from a walk, a single to second base and a bunt down towards third base gave Cole Singsank an opportunity to bring in a run. A chopper hit to third base scored one for the Panthers.
 
 
Keeping the lead in the bottom of the second, NC A&T added two runs to take the 4-1 lead. 
 
High Point did not stay down for long, the Panthers got the bats rolling in the top of the third. Pinch hitting for Trenton PallasCharlie Klingler rocked one into the left field corner clearing house on the bases to bring in three of the five runs in the top of the third. 
 
 
Both teams added a run in their next at bats as High Point kept the two-run lead, 7-5 entering the fifth.
 
Singsank dropped one in shallow left field to bring home Sutton and go up 8-5 but the Aggies knocked in a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth to keep it a two-run game.
 
In the top of sixth, Cael Chatham drove in two runs with a hit stroked through the left side gap. The Panthers advanced on their largest lead of the game with a single to center field from Patrick Matthews to make it 11-6.
 

After being up 11-7 going into the bottom of the ninth, the Aggies found the sweet spot at the plate, teeing off six hits to score four runs. Tying the game 11 all, the Aggies sent the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th inning, NC A&T squeezed in a run off a single to the short stop, beating the throw to score the run.

Up Next: The Panthers will host Big South foe Gardner-Webb for a weekend series at Williard Stadium. The series will begin on Friday at 6:00 pm, followed by a Saturday start at 6:00 pm and a Sunday start at 1:00 pm.
