Coach Boswell: "I like the fight and teamwork throughout the game tonight. We are far from satisfied with the result, but I saw bright moments on both ends of the field and I believe we are headed down the right path as we finish the regular season of conference play."
The Blue Devils took a five-goal lead early, but they could not hold back Mena Loescher for long. With just one minute left in the first quarter, the dominant graduate attacker converted on a free-position shot to give High Point their first points of the night.Â
Â
Sophomore Esprit Cha tallied her third straight game of scoring with back-to-back goals to keep the Panther's within reach. A man-up goal by Loescher cut Duke's lead to three.Â
Â
After a few quick responses from the Blue Devils, Pia Cavallaro wrapped around the crease to sneak in a top-corner score. At the half, Duke led by five.Â
Â
Kay Rosselli started her scoring night early in the third quarter off a beautiful assist from Loescher.
The freshmen then got in on the action as Shannon Smith put her name on the scoring list for the sixth time this year and Reese Dowgiallo netted two free-position shots to mark a career-high two goals.Â
Â
Loescher was the points leader with two goals and an assist, Dowgiallo, Rosselli, and Cha all added two goals for the Panthers and Smith and Cavallaro each added one.Â
Suplee made seven stops in cage and Lexi Jack, Jenna Kraft and Sydney Martin each contributed a caused turnover. Emma Genovese secured five draw controls along with Miles, Baehr, and Rosselli who secured three. Genovese had a phenomenal effort at the circle, holding Duke's Maddie Jenner to just ten draw controls.Â
"The draw is always a battle with Duke and Emma was huge, giving us the result we were after at the center circle and possessions we needed throughout the game" said Coach Boswell.Â
With three points today, Loescher maintains her streak of three or more points in every contest of the 2023 season so far. Rosselli has now scored in five straight games and Espirit Cha is turning up the heat contributing at least a point in three consecutive games.
UP NEXT: The Panthers travel to Farmville, Virginia tomorrow, April 12th to take on the Longwood Lancers. The game begins at 6:00 P.M.
