After Back-And-Forth Action, Panthers Fall to Davidson

Box Score HIGH POINT, N.C. —  The High Point University baseball team welcomed the Wildcats of Davidson to Williard Stadium on Tuesday afternoon for the first time since 2017. In a close battle with the Wildcats, the Panthers fell in the final innings, 10-7.

Davidson started the game off with two hits with one scoring the first run of the game through the right-side gap. David Keith ended the inning with his second strikeout.
 
At leadoff, Brett Ahalt got the bats rolling with a double down the left field line. Bringing him home, Cael Chatham blasted his sixth home run of the year over the left field wall to take the 2-1 lead.
 
 
The Wildcats answered back in the top of the second with a two-run homer over right center field to go back up by one. The team then took a two-run lead over HPU in the top of the third, after a throwing error by the Panthers. Coming in for the Panthers with two outs, Braden Halladay got the job done by getting the strikeout to end the top of the inning.
 
In the top of the fourth, High Point three hits and three runs to take a 5-4 lead. Three straight singles from Adam StuartBlake Sutton, and Javon Fields contributed to the Panthers runs.
 
In the Wildcats next at bat, a single home run tied the game five all going into the bottom of the fifth.
 
Chatham led off the inning with a hit through the right side to tag his 200th career hit.
 
 
Davidson snuck in a run to take the 6-5 advantage off a wild pitch. High Point answered back during a bases loaded situation. With one out, Patrick Matthews hit a sacrifice hit to second base to tie the game for a second time at 6-6.
 
The Wildcats sent two deep in the top of the seventh to bring in three runs and advance to a 9-6 lead.

After going down 10-6, Ahalt sent one to the moon in center field to add one for the Panthers, closing the gap to three with two outs. In High Point's final at bat, the team had bases loaded with one out but was unable to bring in any runs, ending the game 10-7.
 

Up Next: The Panthers fly out to Lafayette, Louisiana to play at the home of the Ragin Cajuns of Lafayette Louisiana. The weekend series will begin on Friday night at 7:00 pm CT.
