HPU Track and Field Completes Competition at Darius Dixon Memorial

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The women's 4x400m relay team broke the indoor school record as the HPU track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invite.

DAY 1 (FRIDAY) RECAP

Head coach Mike Esposito: "Pretty up and down today, seemed to be a little out of sync unlike yesterday. Some of the highlights were the women's 4x400m relay as they continue to get better. That was a good way to end the meet, and they brought some energy that we were maybe lacking. Winning the men's DMR with our group was fun as well. Had some good up and down in the men's pole vault, Reid Holloway that was a huge step for him. But we've got to get everybody firing here because we were not very consistent all day, and we'll need to be in two weeks."

Marissa Blakely finished 10th in the 200m dash with a time of 24.86 while Lindsay Cooper was 18th in 25.05 seconds. Blakely and Cooper joined Ebba Ahman and Dae'Nitra Hester in the 4x400m relay to win the event and set the school record in 3:45.11

Camryn Harper finished the mile in 5:04.66 while Nikki Frail ran for a new personal best in the event in 5:06.53.

Alicia Dawson followed up a gold medal performance in the long jump on Friday with a second-place finish in the triple jump on Saturday with a mark of 12.28m. Letizia Marsico also posted a top-10 finish in shot put with a mark of 13.89m for eighth place.

On the men's side, Ethan Roach was 11th in the 200m dash in 22.02 seconds. The men's distance medley relay team of Lorenzo Botter, Aidan Britt, Jonny House, and Jake Tarosky won the event in 10:10.83.

In the pole vault, Jackson Tuomey and Nick Lourenco finished ninth and 11th, respectively, while both posting marks of 4.78m. Freshman Reid Holloway posted a season-best mark of 4.80m in the open section of the event. In other field event action, Chris Van Niekerk was a top-five finisher in the shot put, recording a mark of 17.03m that was good for fourth place.

Up Next: High Point travels to the Virginia Tech Challenge next weekend as its last weekend competition ahead of the Big South Indoor Championships.
