Yantz Goal Leads to Saturday Night Draw

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The High Point University men's soccer team left Gardner-Webb with a 1-1 draw. High Point continued their streak of not losing to a Big South opponent on the road. The last loss on the road came in 2016 against Presbyterian.

Site: Greene-Harbison Stadium
Score: High Point 1, Gardner-Webb 1
Records: High Point (7-2-3, 4-0-1), Gardner-Webb (2-6-4, 0-1-3)

Head Coach Zach Haines: "We played well. Created enough big chances to score several goals. It just didn't happen for us tonight. Remaining undefeated in big south play is the positive we will take along with the level of performance. The confidence is high, and we just have to keep improving. We have it all in our hands with two conference games to go, so we are happy with that."

Gardner-Webb got on the board quickly as they netted one in the 7th minute. Pablo Brimeux helped the Runnin' Bulldogs to an early lead.

Throughout the rest of the first half, High Point took nine shots. Jefferson Amaya, Kaya Ignacio and Alex Abril all had shot on goal attempts. Good defense led to High Point holding Gardner-Webb to the one early goal.

The second half started with a few chances from Noah Holmes and Brendan Krueger. High Point got what they were looking for as Beau Yantz notched his first of the year as he footed in the equalizer in the 61st minute.

High Point played well the second half getting most of their chances late in the game. The last 12 minutes of the game HPU recorded three shots on goal and three corner kicks from Amaya. The Panthers could not find the back of the net to take the late lead. A few good saves and missed chances resulted in a draw at the final whistle.

Josh Caron recorded three saves on the night.

High Point remains undefeated in Big South play with two conference games remaining.

Up Next: The Panthers stay on the road for a non-conference matchup at NC State Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
