HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University Track & Field finished two days of home competition at their annual VertKlasse Meeting. One of the highlights for the Panther men this weekend was the men's 4x100m relay, in which the Panthers finished in second, but broke a school record that had stood since 2001. The Panther team of
Freddie Allen III,
Paul Gore,
Tucker Conine, and
Deron Dudley ran a time of 40.61, which broke the prior record of 40.63. That mark currently sits at 29th in the NCAA East Region. Another highlight was the men's 10,000m run as
Hunter Steinau set a VertKlasse Meeting record with a personal best time of 30:14.06. Hunter shaved more than a minute off his prior personal best time.
Ian Miller and
Spencer Smucker also finished in second and third in the event.
Panther Particulars
The men's 4x400m team of Terris Burton, Gore, Dudley, and
Bobby Dupell III won the event with a season best time of 3:11.53. That mark currently sits in 20th in the NCAA East Region.
Burton also finished in second in the men's 400m hurdles with a personal best time of 52.18. That time currently sits in 12th place in the NCAA East Region.
Trent Strachan also sent a personal best in the event with a time of 54.28.
Hocine Bouchrak won the men's 1500m run with a time of 3:49.97. Fellow Panther
Lorenzo Botter finished in fourth place in the event with a time of 3:55.27.
Gabriel Ludwick finished in fourth place in the men's 800m run with a personal best time of 1:51.22. His time currently sits in 20th in the NCAA East Region. Jonny House finished in seventh with a personal best of 1:52.86.
Ryan Tenor Jr. won the men's javelin with a career best throw of 60.17m. Robbie Greer finished in second in the event with a season best mark of 59.33m.
Chris Van Niekerk set a season best mark in the shotput with a throw of 17.88m to finish in third place in the men's elite shot put. Van Niekerk also finished in fourth place in the men's elite discus with a mark of 56.27m.
Freddie Allen III finished in third place in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.12m.
Kolt Byers finished in fourth place in the men's high jump with a personal best mark of 2.00m.
Alex Hoffman won the men's hammer throw (non-elite) with a personal best mark of 48.98m, which is just shy of the school record. Hoffman also finished in sixth place in the men's discus (non-elite) with a mark of 45.25m.
Dupell III also finished with a personal best time of 48.33 in the men's 400m run.
Patrick Kelly finished in fifth in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:26.06, shaving more than 25 seconds off his prior fastest time in the event.
Ben Dertinger set a personal best time of 15:06.97 to finish in fifth place in the men's 5000m run.
Byers also set a personal best clearance of 4.45m to finish in sixth place in the men's group B pole vault.
Cole Holliday also set a personal best clearance of 4.30m.
Last, but certainly not least, HPU assistant coach
Scott Houston set a meet record and a facility record with a clearance of 5.67m to win the men's elite pole vault.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will send the majority of their squad next week up the road to Greensboro for the Aggie Classic hosted by North Carolina A&T (April 8th-9th). Some of the Panthers will travel and compete in the Duke Invitational (April 7th-9th).
