LYNCHBURG, Va. – The High Point University men's and women's track and field squads wrapped up competition during day two of the Liberty Kickoff.
Letizia Marsico led off the day with a gold medal in the women's shot put while the women's 4x400m relay team trimmed off a tenth of a second for a new program record.
Along with Marsico's win,
Alicia Dawson was also the gold medalist in the triple jump on the women's side. Dawson's mark of 12.01m won the event while teammate
Jordan Pringle finished as the runner up with a mark of 11.34m.
The new school record-holding women's 4x400m relay team of
Dae'Nitra Hester,
Lindsay Cooper,
Ebba Ahman, and
Marissa Blakely captured a runner up finish with a time of 3:49.97. Hester also finished as the runner up in the 400m dash (57.70) and third in the 60m dash finals with a new career best time of 7.82 seconds. Cooper was third in the 400m dash (57.77) and fourth in the 60m hurdles finals (8.74). Ahman followed up with a fourth-place finish in the open 400 and fifth in the hurdles with a personal best time, 8.83 seconds. Blakely ran to a fifth-place finish in the 200m (25.49) and a sixth-place finish in the 400m dash (58.15).
On the men's side,
Deron Dudley won the 60m dash and tied his own school record while
Adell Colthurst won the 200m dash. Colthurst also placed third in the 60m dash and ran third for HPU's 4x400m relay team along with
Terris Burton,
Aidan Britt, and
Trent Strachan. The quartet ran to a second-place finish in 3:18.39, just missing the program record.
Burton and Britt ran for second and third place, respectively, in the 400m dash. Britt's time of 49.50 was a new personal best for the sophomore. Burton and Strachan also ran in the 60m hurdle finals, finishing fifth and sixth place, respectively.
