High Point Wraps up Regular Season with Final Two Matches in Millis

The High Point University volleyball team (19-9) wraps up the regular season with two games in the Millis Center on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. The Panthers will host Gardner-Webb for senior night on Friday at 6:00 PM before hosting UNC Asheville in the final regular season game on Saturday at 2:00 PM.

Last Time Out
HPU picked up its 19th win of the season last Friday with a 3-0 sweep over Radford. The Panthers are now tied with Campbell in the race for the regular-season Big South conference titles as both team's hold a 12-2 record in conference, with two remaining games to play. Sydney Palazzolo followed up a career-high 25 kills versus Campbell with 13 kills and seven digs against Radford. Three other Panthers, including Sopheea Mink, Maria Miggins, and Dylan Maberry combined for 18 kills.  Sophomore libero Jenny Wessling led the Panthers with 16 digs on the day.  

Last Time This Season Against Gardner-Webb
HPU made it a perfect 2-0 weekend with a three-set victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 15). In a close battle with the Runnin' Bulldogs the Panthers took the opener 25-23 and then cruised to two victories in the second and third, 25-20 in both sets. HPU tabbed the ninth consecutive straight-set victory over the Runnin' Bulldogs. Maberry had a solid performance throughout the weekend, leading the Panthers with 17 kills to earn Big South Player of the Week. 
 

Last Time This Season Against UNC Asheville
HPU opened the October 14th weekend with a 3-0 sweep over UNC Asheville. High Point took the first set by four before dominating the Bulldogs in the second 25-13. UNC Asheville put up a good fight in the third, but the Panthers kept it pushing to a 25-18 win. Maberry and Palazzolo each tabbed double digits on the attack while Gabrielle Idlebird and Maberry combined for 10 blocks.
 

Senior Day 
On Friday, HPU will celebrate seniors Lucy Dumford, Megan Kratzer, Maria Miggins, Sopheea Mink, and Maggie Salley.
 
 
Player of the Week – Sydney Palazzolo
Palazzolo led the team with a total 38 kills and 26 digs between the two matches. In the game against Campbell, she collected a career-high 25 kills while also adding 19 digs and one block. She closed out the week with 13 kills and seven digs against Radford.

Ally Van Eekeren – Player of the Week
Van Eekeren led the Panthers with a total 72 assists, collecting 31 against Charleston Southern and 41 against Winthrop over the weekend. Along with her 31 assists against the Buccaneers, she added six kills, one service ace, two blocks and nine digs. In the game against the Eagles, Van Eekeren collected her sixth double-double of the season adding 10 kills, one block and eight digs to her 41 assists.
 
Dylan Maberry - Player of the Week
Maberry led HPU with 13 kills, hitting .385 with a season-high five blocks against UNC Asheville before tallying 17 kills for a .412 hitting percentage, and two blocks against Gardner-Webb. She finished the weekend with a total 30 kills, two assists, four digs, and seven blocks.

Palazzolo Earns Second Player of the Week Honor
Sydney Palazzolo posted double-doubles in each of High Point's three matches over the weekend. She led HPU with 16 kills against and 15 digs against Winthrop, hitting .277 with one block before tallying 19 kills, 11 digs, and one block against Charleston Southern. She finished the weekend with 12 kills, 15 digs, and two blocks as HPU took a set from No. 10 Pitt on Sunday.

Ziemba Named Libero of the Week
Jillian Ziemba picked up her first weekly Big South Conference award on Monday (September 26th) as she was named the Libero of the Week. Ziemba finished last weekend with 34 total digs and 21-for-22 on serve receptions to help the Panthers to two conference wins.  
 
Idlebird Sets New Program-Best against Fairfield
Graduate middle blocker Gabrielle Idlebird set a new program record for single-match hitting percentage (minimum 10 attempts) on Saturday against Fairfield. Idlebird was a perfect 8-for-8 on attack attempts and finished the match 11-for-13 (.846). 
 
Meek Posts 200th Career Win
Head coach Ryan Meek notched his 200th career win on Saturday as the Panthers swept the Stags. Meek has posted 103 of his wins in five years at the helm for HPU. 
 
Maberry, Wessling Claim Big South Weekly Awards
Dylan Maberry and Jenny Wessling earned weekly awards from the conference after their performances at the Fairfield Invitational. Maberry was named the Player of the Week after posting 38 kills and hitting over .400 through the three matches while Wessling earned the Libero of the Week nod for the second time in three weeks, tallying a match-high 28 digs against Sacred Heart.
 
Palazzolo, Wessling Take First Weekly Conference Awards
Sophomores Sydney Palazzolo and Jenny Wessling earned Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Big South Conference on Monday. Palazzolo finished the week with 55 kills (5.0 kps), 37 digs, three blocks, and two service aces while Wessling posted 53 digs and three service aces.
