EUGENE, OREGON—High Point University Track and Field's freshman pole vaulter Sydney Horn made program history at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field championships as she recorded back-to-back All-American performances at both NCAA Track & Field Championships in the same season. She is the first Panther woman to ever accomplish this feat. Horn finished sixth at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships which is the highest Panther finish in program history. She is the first High Point athlete to earn All-American honors at an NCAA Outdoor Championship.
Coach Scott Houston
"I'm really excited about Sydney's year, another fourteen-foot make clean in competition is really tough to do. For her to come out here and still have the composure at the end of a long freshman and successful season, to still jump fourteen feet cleanly at this stage and be ready to go at those next bars is a really positive thing."
Sydney Horn on her performance and freshman season
"Going into today I was pretty excited, just to be out here in Eugene was crazy and be out in the new stadium. I was excited to make it on the first attempt in the first three jumps because first attempts usually place you higher, overall just excited to be out there. I probably would not have believed if you told me in high school I would be standing here but here I am!" Horn said with a smile as she held her All-American trophy.
Horn cleared the first jump at 4.05m with ease in the first attempt and followed that up with a first attempt clearance of 4.20m
Her third jump of the championship meet was another first attempt clearance as she went up and over 4.30m.
Horn finished sixth at the 2021 NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in pole vault the second time she has earned All-American honors this season. She has taken the nation by storm and has brought High Point Track and Field to national prominence.
Under the brightest lights, her star has shone.
