Live Stats | Watch

The High Point University baseball team (9-14, 7-10 Big South) has its first non-conference game in over a month on Tuesday (April 6) when the Panthers matchup against fellow Triad-foe Elon (7-13, 1-2 CAA) at 6 p.m.

Matchup History
  • Tuesday will be the 47th meeting between High Point and Elon, with the Phoenix holding a 26-20 advantage in the series.
  • The series is tied when played in Elon at 12-12.
  • The teams have split each of the last three seasons they've met, with Elon winning the first game in 2017, '18, and '19 and the Panthers taking the second game that year.

Across the Diamond
  • Elon is 7-13 on the season and is coming off of its first series of conference play where it dropped two of three to UNC Wilmington.
  • The Phoenix have gotten a lot of play in the Triad to start the year, with 10 of their 20 games played against local teams, including UNCG, Wake Forest, and North Carolina A&T
  • Elon is second in the CAA in home runs with 16 on the season and is fourth in the conference in hits with 152.
  • The Phoenix rack up strikeouts at a good clip, entering Tuesday second in the CAA and 41st in the nation with a strikeout per nine innings rate of 10.1.
  • Alex Iadisernia is the only Elon hitter batting over .300 and sits third in the CAA with an average of .385. He averages 1.50 hits per game to lead the conference and sit 52nd nationally.
  • Spencer Bauer has the lowest ERA among qualifying pitchers for the Phoenix with a mark of 2.84. He's allowed eight runs with 26 hits, six walks, and 24 strikeouts in 25.1 innings of work.
  • Trevor Kirk is one of Elon's top bullpen arms with a 3.97 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched over 10 appearances. He's allowed five earned runs on 18 hits and seven walks with 20 strikeouts.

Panther Notes
Last Time Out
High Point took one of three games against Charleston Southern last weekend, winning the series opener on Thursday (April 1) before dropping both games of Friday's doubleheader (April 2). The Panthers won 10-5 to start the series before falling 10-7 and 15-4 in the twin bill, with the second game halted after seven innings due to the 10-run rule instituted for doubleheaders this year.

Road Trip
HPU is in the middle of a seven-game road swing, playing three games at Longwood after the midweek matchup with Elon. The Panthers only have two home games in the month of April, both on Tuesdays, and don't play another weekend series at home until hosting USC Upstate on May 7-8.

Not so Lyttle
Grey Lyttle finds himself second in the Big South in total strikeouts after seven starts with 51 on the season, including a season-high nine against Asheville. His strikeout per nine inning rate of 11.77 leads the Big South.

Four for Four
Brady Pearre had a career day in the first game at Charleston Southern, picking up a career-best four hits in four at bats with two walks and two RBIs. Pearre totaled seven hits in the series to lead the team.

Going Yard
The Panthers hit home runs in the first two games against CSU and have left the park three times in their last four games. Pearre and Peyton Carr were the two with home runs in Charleston, with Pearre hitting one in the first inning of Thursday's win and Carr hitting a two-run shot in the third inning of the first game on Friday. HPU has 14 homers on the season for third place in the conference.

Carrving them Up
Carr went yard twice in the first game of the doubleheader against Radford, including a three-run shot for the first four-RBI game of his career. He matched that with a four-RBI performance in the middle game of the Charleston Southern series. Carr currently has nine multi-hit and four multi-RBI games on the season to lead the team in both categories and is tied with Joe Johnson for the most home runs on the team.

Home Run Parade
The Panthers held a home run parade in the first game of the doubleheader against UNC Asheville, trotting around to home four times in the contest after not hitting one heading into the weekend. It's the most homers High Point has hit in a single game since mashing five out of the park at Gardner-Webb on April 14, 2018.

WHIP it Real Good
HPU is second in the Big South in WHIP entering Tuesday, allowing 1.39 walks and hits each inning pitched, second only to USC Upstate.

Getting Offensive
High Point put up 31 runs in the three games against UNC Asheville for the most runs in a weekend series in program history since scoring 32 on Presbyterian in a sweep of the Blue Hose in 2015.

Debutant Ball
Sam Garcia made his High Point debut against Gardner-Webb last weekend, while Bryan Woelfel pitched for the first time this season in the same game. Garcia pitched 2.2 innings and allowed no hits to the eight batters he faced while Woelfel was called upon to get the final out of the game.

Limiting the Hitting
The Panthers give up 8.05 hits per nine innings, the third-best mark in the Big South and 67th-best in the nation. High Point has held opponents to five or fewer hits five times and has allowed double-digit hits five times as well.

Making the Sacrifice
High Point has hit 13 sacrifice flies this season, hitting four in the series in Charleston. The Purple and White have the third-most sac flies in the conference and 37th-most in the country.

Up Next: High Point returns to conference play this weekend with a series at Longwood. The teams will meet Friday evening (April 9) at 5 p.m. before playing a pair on Saturday (April 10), starting at 1 p.m.
