Live Stats | Watch

The High Point University baseball team (7-9, 5-5 Big South) returns home for a midweek matchup with Campbell (10-7, 5-4 Big South), with fourth place in the Big South standings on the line.

Matchup History
  • Tuesday will be the 42nd meeting between High Point and Campbell since HPU joined Division I, with the Fighting Camels holding a 26-15 lead in the first 41.
  • Campbell swept the season series in 2019 and enters Tuesday on a five-game winning streak against the Purple and White.
  • High Point has fared slightly better when playing Campbell at home, entering this week with an 8-12 record against CU in the Triad and a 6-11 record in Buies Creek.

Across the Diamond
  • Campbell is 10-7 on the season with a 5-4 mark in conference play to enter Tuesday holding the fourth sport on the Big South standings.
  • The Fighting Camels had their midweek game against Winthrop last week postponed due to COVID-19 protocols and most recently lost two of three at UNC Asheville.
  • Campbell is one of the best teams in the country at finding the gaps, entering the week with 40 doubles to lead the conference and rank 19th nationally.
  • The Fighting Camels have also been adept at bringing runs in via sacrifice flies this season with 12 so far - the most in the Big South and ninth-most in all of Division I.
  • Three Campbell players hit over .300 heading into Tuesday, led by Spencer Packard's mark of .400, the second-best. Packard also has one of the best eyes in the country, drawing 18 bases on balls so far this season to lead the conference and sit in 11th nationally.
  • Connor Denning and Matthew Christian are the other Camels batting over .300 at .379 and .347, respectively. Denning is a major reason Campbell hits so many doubles as he has nine of the team's 40 to lead the conference and sit sixth in the country, one behind the five players leading the pack.
  • Ryan Chasse has the best ERA on Campbell's staff among pitchers that meet the NCAA minimum requirement of 1.0 IP per team game with a mark of 3.29 in 27.1 innings of action.
  • Kevin Westlake is one of the Fighting Camels' top arms out of the bullpen, having yet to give up a run in 9.0 innings of work He's only allowed two hits and three walks with 13 strikeouts and has both of Campbell's saves on the year.

Panther Notes
Last Time Out
After winning its first midweek game of the season, High Point took the first game of a weekend series against USC Upstate but dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader.

Start Me Up
Graduate student Grey Lyttle was named the Big South's Starting Pitcher of the Week earlier today after winning the head-to-head matchup between two of the conference's best hurlers on Friday.

Not so Lyttle
Lyttle finds himself atop the Big South in total strikeouts after five starts with 40 on the season, including a season-high nine against Asheville. He's racked up the 40 Ks and issued only seven walks for a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 5.71, the third-best in the conference while his 40 strikeouts are the 26th-most in the country.

Turning Two
HPU has turned 14 double plays on the year to lead the conference and sit 31st nationally.

Seeing Double
High Point is second in the Big South in doubles hit this season, with 28 two-bag knocks this year. It was a big week for extra-base hits last week, with the Panthers hitting two in all four games against Longwood and Upstate, making it nine straight games with a double for HPU and seven of the nine with multiple doubles. Additionally, the Purple and White have picked up an extra-base hit in every game except for the season opener this year, slugging .362 as a team.

Hopping on the Cole Train
Redshirt freshman Cole Singsank had a hit in each of the first two games of the Upstate series to extend his hitting streak to a career-best seven games before losing it in the series finale. He totaled 12 hits in the seven games with five doubles and four RBIs.

Carrving them Up
Freshman Peyton Carr went yard twice in the first game of the doubleheader against Radford, including a three-run shot for the first four-RBI game of his career. He currently has five multi-hit games on the season, tied for the most on the team, while also sitting tied for the team lead in home runs with three entering Tuesday. While Carr only picked up one hit in three games last week, he drew three walks in the two games he didn't get a hit in, extending his on-base streak to 12 straight games - all but the first two he played in.

Home Run Parade
The Panthers held a home run parade in the first game of the doubleheader against UNC Asheville, trotting around to home four times in the contest after not hitting one heading into the weekend. It's the most homers High Point has hit in a single game since mashing five out of the park at Gardner-Webb on April 14, 2018.

Deja Vu
Brady Pearre had two of the home runs in that game against Asheville, becoming the first member of the Purple and White to hit multiple home runs in the same game since….Pearre hit two on….March 6, 2020, exactly one year to the day that he did it against Asheville.

WHIP it Real Good
HPU is second in the Big South and 64th in the country in WHIP entering the Tuesday, allowing 1.30 walks and hits each inning pitched, second only to USC Upstate.

Getting Offensive
High Point put up 31 runs in the three games against UNC Asheville for the most runs in a weekend series in program history since scoring 32 on Presbyterian in a sweep of the Blue Hose in 2015.

Went Streaking
Joe Johnson's career-long hitting streak finally came to a close in the final game against Asheville. He was unable to record a hit in his four at bats, stopping the streak at eight games this season and 15 in a row dating back to Feb. 25, 2020.

Short-Outing Save
While Johnson's hitting streak may have come to an end on Sunday, he made his pitching debut this season in the game, coming in from left field to get the final out of the game. He needed only two pitches to induce the groundout to short to secure the sweep and pick up his second career save.

Limiting the Hitting
The Panthers only give up 7.21 hits per nine innings, the best mark in the Big South and 20th-best in the nation. High Point has held opponents to five or fewer hits four times and has only allowed double digits three times.

Making the Sacrifice
High Point has hit nine sacrifice flies this season, the third-most in the Big South and 47th-most in the country. Individually, Singsank has hit two, fourth in the conference and 68th in the country.

Up Next: High Point hits the road for the first time this weekend with a three-game series at USC Upstate. Game one is scheduled for Friday (March 19), with a doubleheader slated for Saturday (March 20).
