HIGH POINT, N.C.--
High Point University Track & Field head coach Mike Esposito announced the 2021 schedule on Tuesday, November 23rd. The Panthers are scheduled for 23 meets this indoor and outdoor season after having an abbreviated slate for 2020-21. This indoor season sees the return of the Big South Indoor Championships after not being held in 2021. HPU returns as the reigning Men's and Women's Big South Champions for both outdoor and indoor.

Panther track fans will notice a lot of the traditional meets on the calendar for HPU as well as several new and noteworthy ones. Headlining the schedule this season is the addition of a third home meet: The Meet of Champions, from the brain of Mike Esposito and on to the brand-new purple track inside Vert Stadium. The Meet of Champions will include the ACC Champion Duke, The C-USA Champion Charlotte, The Sunbelt Champion Liberty, The CAA Champion Elon's women, MEAC Champion, and NCAA National title contender NC A&T, and of course the Big South Champion Panthers. The meet will take place in Vert Stadium on April 16th and will feature team scoring sanctioned and conducted by Flash Results.

Indoors, the Panthers will travel to Virginia Tech twice and Liberty three times, including the first meet of the year the Liberty Kick-Off. High Point will also be taking some distance runners to Boston for the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on December 4th. HPU is slated to head south for the South Carolina Invitational during the indoor season and will also stay close to home for three meets at HPU's indoor home JDL.

HPU will host the Indoor Big South Championship at JDL in Winston Salem on Thursday, February 24th, and Friday, February 25th.

The 2021 NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championship will be conducted in Birmingham, AL from March 11th-12th. Last indoor season, Sydney Horn burst onto the national scene finishing third in pole vault earning All-American honors as a freshman.

Coach Esposito on the Indoor slate: "Indoors, we are going to some really good venues with the high-level competition we are going to have opportunities for all levels of our kids to compete. Being able to have conference twenty minutes down the road is certainly advantageous. We are very excited to have an Indoor Championship this year, last year we felt like we had a great chance to repeat it, but A&T will certainly make it tough this year."

Outdoors, HPU will host three home meets in the Bill Webb Combined Events and Bob Davidson Memorial that runs from March 18th-19th, the annual Vertklasse Meeting, HPU's love letter to the Weltklasse Meeting, that runs from April 1-2, and the Meet of Champions on April 16th.

HPU will attend three meets hosted by ACC teams in the Raleigh Relays (NC State), Duke Invitational, and The UVA Challenge.

HPU will travel back to Austin, Texas this season for the Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas. The Panthers will also compete at meets hosted by UNC Charlotte, Liberty, and the newest member of the Big South NC A&T.

Instead of a trip to Jacksonville, Florida, any NCAA Regional qualifiers will be headed to Bloomington, Indiana on May 25th-28th. Last season HPU sent a program-record 11 athletes to regionals a season ago. The NCAA National Championships will be in Eugene, Oregon again this season, Horn represented the Panthers in Heyward finishing sixth at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships which is the highest Panther finish in program history. She was the first High Point athlete to earn All-American honors at an NCAA Outdoor Championship.

The 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will be held in Eugene from June 8th to June 11th.

Coach Esposito on the outdoor schedule: "It is one of our stronger schedules, we are better, so we need to attend better meets. We had a good experience last year at the Texas Relays and going again this year gives our regional and national caliber kids a chance to compete against that level of competition. Obviously, we are excited about hosting three meets, in particular the Meet of Champions. We are going to get to see some high-level things this season and we are going to need with how much better the conference is going to be in 2021-22. We are excited to go to Indiana too, we have been going to Florida for quite some time, so it will be exciting to go to Indiana for regionals this year."
