The High Point University baseball team (5-4) hits the road to play in the 17th annual Keith LeClair Classic this weekend (Feb. 28-March 1) in Greenville, N.C., hosted by East Carolina. The Panthers will play No. 13 Ole Miss on Friday (Feb. 28), Indiana on Saturday (Feb. 29), and the host No. 17 Pirates on Sunday (March 1).

Matchup History
- The games against Ole Miss and Indiana will be the first time High Point has played those two schools since becoming a Division I program in 2000.
- High Point and ECU have played each other 11 times in the past, with ECU leading the series 6-5. The Panthers are 3-0 against the Pirates at home but 2-6 in Clark-LeClair Stadium.
- Despite being down in the series, HPU has a two-game winning streak against East Carolina, winning back in 2015 and '16, the last time the two teams played each other.

Panther Notes
- High Point lost its third game in a row this week, falling to N.C. Central at home Tuesday evening (Feb. 25).
- Sophomore Sam Zayicek and junior Travis Holt each had two hits against the Eagles, with Zayicek sending one over the ball in right for his second home run of the season.
- The Panthers' pitching staff has combined for 103 strikeouts this season, tied for the 11th-most in all of Division I. HPU has record double-digit strikeouts in all but one game to start the season.
- HPU has 85 hits as a team on the year, tied with Winthrop for the most in the Big South and 21st in D1. Holt has 16 of those to lead the team and the conference, entering the weekend tied for 11th in the country.
- High Point has drawn 50 walks to start the season, the most in the Big South and 20th-most in the country. Senior Joe Johnson and sophomore Brady Pearre have each taken eight bases on balls, tied for 57th nationally.

Ole Miss
- Ole Miss is 7-1 on the season and ranked as high as No. 13 in the Baseball America poll. The Rebels opened the season with No. 1-ranked Louisville and took the series from the Cardinals, losing the first game and winning the next two, sparking the seven-game winning streak they enter the weekend on.
- The Rebels made it to the SEC Championship game and an NCAA Super Regional a year ago.
- Anthony Servideo leads the offense with a .439 batting average with 12 hits, four home runs, 10 RBIs and eight walks.
- Doug Nikhazy is projected to start against the Panthers and is the reigning SEC Pitcher of the Week. He's 1-1 on the season and has given up four earned runs for an ERA of 3.18 with 14 strikeouts.

Indiana
- Indiana is 4-2 this season and enters on a four-game winning streak.
- The Hoosiers won the Big Ten regular season in 2019 before losing their first two games of the Big South Tournament. IU still made the postseason, losing to Louisville in the Regional round.
- Elijah Dunham leads Indiana's offense with an average of .476 and 10 hits. He has an on base percentage of .621, the 16th-best in the country.
- Tommy Sommer is projected to pitch against HPU on Saturday and has an ERA of 5.00 from nine innings of work over two starts.

East Carolina
- East Carolina is ranked No. 17 in the NCBWA poll after starting the season 7-1.
- ECU opened the season with a sweep of William & Mary before falling to Campbell in the first midweek game of the season. The Pirates recovered and haven't lost since, winning all four of their games since then.
- Two Pirates are batting .440 on the year, led by Bryson Worrell's mark of .444. Right behind him is Thomas Francisco batting .440. The two have combined for three home runs and 15 RBIs.
- Jake Kuchmaner s projected to start against the Panthers on Sunday and has not given up a run in five innings of work this season.

Up Next: High Point returns to Williard Stadium on Tuesday (March 3) to host Virginia Tech in a midweek matchup. That is the start of an eight-game homestand for HPU that sees the Hokies, James Madison, UNCG, and USC Upstate all come to town.
