Watch | Live Stats

The High Point University baseball team (5-2) looks to rebound from the weekend with a midweek game against North Carolina Central on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 25). It's a rematch of a week ago, when the Panthers came from behind to win 10-7 in Durham. The contest, originally scheduled for 4 p.m., has been moved to 6 p.m.

Matchup History
  • High Point and N.C. Central have now played each other 11 times, with the Panthers holding an 8-3 lead in the series.
  • Last week's 10-7 victory made it three straight wins against the Eagles and four in the last five for HPU, with three of those four wins seeing the Purple and White put 10 runs on the board.

Panther Notes
  • High Point lost its first weekend series this season last weekend, only winning one game against Towson.
  • Friday's game was pushed back to Saturday to create the first doubleheader of the season, and that first game was the only one the Panthers took, shutting out the Tigers 4-0.
  • Harrison Smith had the first quality start of the season for HPU in that game, going seven innings and striking out seven while only allowing two hits and one walk.
  • The Panthers' pitching staff has combined for 92 strikeouts this season, the 12th-most in all of Division I. HPU has record double-digit strikeouts in all but one game to start the season.
  • Travis Holt and Justin Ebert each picked up three hits on the weekend, with Holt bringing his season total up to 14, tied for the 20th-most in the country.
  • Muhammed Eid is projected to start for the HPU, just as he did last week against N.C. Central. He gave up five earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in five innings of work in the first meeting between the two.
  • Four Panthers had two hits on the NCCU pitching staff last week - Holt, Ebert, Joe Johnson, and Adam Stuart. Stuart and Johnson each hit a home run, part of a three-RBI night for Johnson.

Across the Diamond
  • N.C. Central is 1-7 on the year and also had their weekend games affected by the snow, having to play a doubleheader with Niagara on Saturday.
  • Similar to the Panthers, the Eagles won the first game of the doubleheader and then lost the next two to lose the series.
  • Luis DeLeon leads NCCU in almost every hitting category, entering Tuesday batting .423 with 11 hits and 10 RBIs. Close behind DeLeon is Vinny. Bailey, batting .321 with nine hits and seven RBIs.
  • Shane Davis has started the middle game of both of the Eagles' weekend series and is NCCU's ERA leader among starting pitchers with a 1.74 mark.
  • N.C. Central's projected starter is Caleb McRoy, who faced the Panthers last week but only for one out. He's pitched 2.1 innings on the year and has yet to give up a run, allowing one hit with four walks and a single strikeout.

Up Next: High Point travels to Greenville, N.C. this weekend for the prestigious Keith LeClair Classic, hosted by East Carolina. HPU will play Ole Miss on Friday (Feb. 28), Indiana on Saturday (Feb. 29), and then wrap up the event with a game against the host Pirates on Sunday (March 1).
