HIGH POINT, N.C.—The No. 25 High Point University women's lacrosse team looks to win its third-consecutive Big South Tournament Sunday (April 28) when the Panthers face Winthrop at 2 p.m. at Vert Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
The Panthers (14-4) advanced to the title game after defeating Campbell, 16-9, in the semifinal. HPU is looking for its fifth Big South Tournament championship and sixth conference tournament crown overall (2011, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018). The winner will advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Sophomore
Abby Hormes tallied five goals and an assist to break the single-season HPU record with 92 points, breaking the previous record of 87 set by
Samantha Brown (2017) and
Brooke Stevens (2018). Hormes is now third and one point away from second in Big South single-season history.
Redshirt-junior
Meredith Chapman caused a school-record seven turnovers and picked up six ground balls. Senior
Samantha Herman caused four turnovers, while fellow senior
Maggie Huey caused three.
Senior
Allie Little tied her career high with seven points on three goals and four assists, while sophomore
Rachel Foster added five goals.
All-Time Series
This will be 12th all-time meeting between the two programs, with the Panthers leading the series, 8-3. HPU won the first matchup this season, 17-6, at Winthrop on April 20.
On the Eagles
Winthrop (8-10) defeated Longwood in the Big South semifinals, 12-9, to advance to the final. The Eagles used a 5-0 run in the second half to earn the win.
