HIGH POINT, N.C. - After taking Wake Forest to the brink on Tuesday, High Point University baseball gets back to its conference schedule this weekend, hosting Longwood University for a three-game series inside Williard Stadium. Originally scheduled to run Friday through Sunday, the Panthers' stint with the Lancers was pushed back a day, with the finale now set for a Monday first pitch.

After a tough first two games against Winthrop last weekend, the Panther offense looked to be getting its swagger back come the Sunday finale, delivering 13 knocks in a 7-4 win over the Eagles. The Purple & White went on to collect six extra-base hits, three of which were home runs, in their midweek at Wake Forest, surrendering two different leads in what ended as a 14-9 losing effort. 

Opening the conference season with a series win over Gardner-Webb, the Lancers went stagnant against Winthrop and UNC Asheville in the following weeks, going 0-6 against the two sides overall. In addition to surrendering 90 hits, the Lancers committed 19 errors in their combined efforts against the Eagles and Bulldogs, before bouncing back with a series win over visiting Charleston Southern this past weekend.

• The Panthers recorded their fourth multi-home run performance of the year against Wake Forest on Tuesday, with three. They've hit 13 in their past 11 contests
• Daniel Millwee delivered his sixth homer of the year against the Demon Deacons, five of his dingers have come with men on base, while four have been three-run shots
• Junior designated hitter, and Sunday starter, Joe Johnson has delivered a slashline of .360/.396/.540 against conference opponents this season, in addition to earning winning decisions against Winthrop and Charleston Southern on his last two trips to the bump
• Millwee is currently on a 18-game on base streak, the last time he didn't reach first safely was all the way back on March 9th against James Madison
 
ON THE HILL
• Joe Johnson has earned back-to-back wins as a Sunday starter for the Panthers these past two weeks. He tossed a quality start against Charleston Southern, before holding Winthrop to three runs over his 5.0 inning start this past weekend
• Friday starter Grey Lyttle has a H/9 average of 5.81 on the season, ranking second in the Big South and 54th in the nation
• Senior Jonny Vizcaino struck out five batters in his 3.0 innings of relief at Winthrop, he's recorded 16 Ks over his past three appearances (8.1 IP), giving him a K/9 average of 17.28 during that span
• Jacob Winger collected the third save of his career against the Eagles on Sunday. He's surrendered just a single earned run over his past seven trips to the hill, throwing 11.2 innings in that time

SCOUTING THE LANCERS
• Longwood has surrendered a conference-high 253 runs on the year, yet only 207 of those runs have been earned, as the Lancers' fielding percentage (.939) ranks 293rd out of 299 teams in D1 baseball 
• Junior shortstop Antwuan Tucker has been an offensive boon for the Lancers since returning to the regular starting lineup at the end of March. He is slashing .365/.444/.524 on the year, while stealing 10 bases on 10 attempts
• Appearing primarily in the closer role, senior righty Jon Peterson leads Longwood with a 2.45 ERA and holds a team-high three saves in 2019

COMING UP NEXT
With the change to this weekend's schedule, the Panthers can expect a busy schedule in the coming week. The Purple & White will jump straight into the midweek after Monday's finale with the Lancers, facing Virginia Tech at home on Tuesday. HPU will turn around back into Big South-play just two days later, opening their weekend series at Presbyterian on Thursday in Clinton, S.C.
