Panthers Attempt Season Sweep of NC A&T

HIGH POINT, N.C. - After defeating North Carolina A&T by a final of 8-1 in late February, High Point University baseball will attempt to complete the season sweep of the Aggies at home this Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 4 PM inside Williard Stadium.

The Panthers are coming off one of their most impressive offensive performances of the season tis past Sunday, collecting a season-high 16 hits in game two of a finale doubleheader against James Madison. Eight different HPU players recorded knocks in that contest, as Head Coach Craig Cozart collected the 300th win of his Division I coaching career. 

The Aggies come to High Point after completing a MEAC series victory over hosts NC Central this past weekend. The Aggie bats have been hot as of late, collecting nine doubles, five home runs and a .462 slugging percentage since March 5th. A&T has gone 4-1 in its last five contests and is outscoring opponents 38-28 in the month of March.

AT THE PLATE
• Freshmen Evan Bergman and Trent Harris are sporting six and four-game hitting streaks respectively, with the former earning Big South Freshman of the Week honors this past Monday
• Ryan Russell went 5-for-9 (.556) against the Dukes this past weekend, collecting a career-high four knocks in Sunday's 8-6 finale victory
• The Panthers offense enters their midweek contest after collecting a season-high 16 hits against JMU on Sunday, hitting .410 against the Dukes pitching staff in that contest
• The last time High Point faced off with the Aggies they delivered a season-high three home runs on the afternoon, while drawing a total of seven walks
 
ON THE HILL
• With just a 2.92 BB/9 average, the Panther pitching staff ranks 24th in all of Division I baseball. HPU has held teams to three or less walks in nine of 13 contests in 2019
• Expected starter Muhammed Eid tossed the first quality start of the Panthers' season the last time he faced A&T, giving up a single run over six innings of work, with four strikeouts
• HPU surrendered just three hits and a single walk to the Aggies in their last meeting, striking out nine A&T batters in the process
• Right-hander Grey Lyttle had a career day in HPU's 8-6 victory over James Madison this past Sunday, tossing a career-high 7.0 innings and 79 pitches, and striking out a personal best six batters in relief

SCOUTING THE AGGIES
• The Aggies have won four of their past five contests heading into Wednesday, taking two of three from in-conference opponent NC Central this past weekend
• A&T has one of the lowest ERAs in the nation, with its 3.05 average landing 30th in Division I baseball. The Aggie pitching staff has already collected three shutouts on the year, only seven teams in the country have more
• The Aggie have one of the more aggressive base running offenses the Panthers will see this year. NC A&T already has already attempted 33 steals in 2019, while its 26 swiped bags rank 31st in D1 baseball

COMING UP NEXT
The Panthers open the Big South play with a three-game weekend series against the visiting Campbell Camels this Friday. HPU took two of three contests the last time Campbell came to Williard in 2017, with the side's lone loss coming in extra innings.
