HIGH POINT, N.C. - High Point University baseball opens its home schedule this Tuesday with triad rival UNCG, with first pitch scheduled for 4 PM. The Panthers went 1-1 against the Spartans in 2018, but defeated the side 14-4 the last time they came to Williard Stadium.
Both programs tallied a pair of wins over opening weekend, with the Purple & White bouncing back from an opening game loss to take the series against hosts Old Dominion. After falling 7-0 in game one, HPU came back from one-run deficits in both of its proceeding contests, defeating the Monarchs by counts of 5-4 and 7-5. Six newcomers made their collegiate debut in a Panthers uniform while in Norfolk, while senior
Daniel Millwee recorded a team-high five hits over the course of the three game series.
Playing just a pair of contests in their opening weekend, the Spartans enter Tuesday's matchup a perfect 2-0 with their two victories against Quinnipiac. UNCG provided a batting average of .358 against the Bobcats, while holding the visiting club to just seven runs and a .179 batting average. The Spartans were picked to finish second in both the Southern Conference Coaches Poll and Media Poll, receiving a pair of first-place votes in the former.
