HIGH POINT, N.C. - The High Point University men's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 triumph over Greensboro College on Thursday evening at Vert Stadium. The match was the second of three exhibitions for the squad prior to the season opener.
"This was another great opportunity to evaluate our group by playing everyone on the roster," head coach
EJ O'Keeffe said. "It was great to see some bright spots and then also see some things that we need to work on heading into our final preseason game on Saturday against a very talented Charlotte team."
High Point controlled most of the contest, outshooting the Pride 15-2, including 8-0 in shots on goal. The game was split into three segments, the first two of which were 30 minutes with the third lasting 20 minutes.
The Panthers got on the board in the 23rd minute when sophomore
Connor Cesar laid a perfect ball across the box to redshirt-sophomore
Bana Ganidekam, who headed it in to put HPU ahead 1-0. Three minutes later, Ganidekam struck again with a strong run that initially resulted in a blocked shot. The native of Accra, Ghana, recollected and blasted a shot past the Greensboro keeper for his second goal of the match.
HPU added on in the 51st minute on a goal from freshman
George Ekdahl. Senior
Ebe Kudolo slithered through the box and found Ekdahl on the left side, who calmly put it home to give the Panthers a 3-0 edge.
Ekdahl collected his second goal of the game in the 77th minute. Following a foul on Greensboro College, Ekdahl lined up for a free kick, and after a deke from senior
Poli Rodriguez, drilled a shot into the far corner of the net to push HPU in front 4-0.
Redshirt-sophomore
Keegan Meyer started in net and played the first 30 minutes before giving way to felllow redshirt-sophomoreÂ
Pat Fallon, who played the final 50 minutes in goal. The Panthers defense did not allow a shot on net from the Pride.
High Point wraps up the exhibition season on Saturday at Charlotte at 7 p.m. The Purple & White open up the season at home next Friday, Aug. 25, against Howard at 4 p.m.
