DELAND, Fla. – The High Point University baseball team will try and clinch its second-straight weekend series to start the season when they Panthers face off with Stetson in the rubber game on Sunday, Feb. 26, in DeLand, Fla.
Freshman right-hander
Drew Daczkowski will get the ball on the mound for High Point in his second start of the season. The freshman lasted just 2-1/3 innings in his first start and allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits and three walks while striking out one against NJIT. Stetson will start sophomore right-hander Logan Gilbert against Daczkowski. Gilbert has appeared in two games out of the pen this season and is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA having allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out five in 4-2/3 innings.
High Point dropped the second game of the weekend by a score of 5-4 in 10 innings on Saturday to even the series at 1-1.
The Panthers went up 1-0 in the first on a leadoff home run by junior
Austen Zente then added on three runs in the seventh to go ahead 4-0 but Stetson answered with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. In the 10th inning, the Hatters scored the winning run on a throwing error to earn the win.

Zack Gray both recorded multiple hits in the loss as Zente went 2-4 with a home run and a double, one RBI and one run scored and Gray finished 2-4 with a double and an RBI.
Freshman
Grey Lyttle took the loss for High Point, dropping to 0-1 on the season. Lyttle pitched one inning and allowed one unearned run on two walks while striking out one.
Joey Gonzalez pitched three innings of scoreless relief for Stetson to improve to 1-0 on the season. Gonzalez allowed two hits and a walk and struck out three.
