HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team will try and complete its sweep of Radford when the team takes on the Highlanders in the third and final game of the weekend series on Sunday, May 8, at 1 p.m., in Williard Stadium.
Freshman right-hander
Andrew Gottfried will make his eighth start of the season for the Panthers in the series finale on Sunday. Gottfried suffered a loss out of the bullpen at Davidson during the midweek after allowing two unearned runs in the 10th inning. He is 4-4 on the season with a 3.26 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 49-2/3 innings. Gottfried will face off with left-hander Tyler Swarmer from Radford. Swarmer is 3-3 with a 4.68 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 50 innings of work.
High Point clinched the weekend series with a 9-5 win over Radford on Saturday. The Panthers fell behind by three early but scored nine runs over the fourth and fifth innings to take the win.
Junior
Andre Scrubb earned the win on the mound for HPU and improved to 7-4 for the season. Scrubb allowed five runs, four earned, on four hits and five walks and struck out seven in five innings. Senior
Tyler Britton relieved Scrubb and allowed just one run on two hits while striking out three in the final four innings to pick up his fourth save of the season.
Mitchell MacKeith dropped to 3-5 after taking the loss for Radford. The left-hander allowed five earned runs on six hits and a walk in 3-1/3 innings while striking out just one. MacKeith held HPU to just one hit and one walk in the first three innings before giving up five hits and five runs in the fourth.
The middle of the order produced for the Panthers in the win as junior

Dominic Fazio and sophomore
Carson Jackson combined to go 6-12 with five RBI and five runs scored. Jackson finished with four RBI and two runs scored, Fazio drove in one and scored once and Clare scored twice. Sophomore
Spencer Brown joined the trio with multiple hits of his own, finishing 2-3 with three RBI and a run scored.
High Point has two weekend sweeps on the season, having previously swept Rider at home and UNC Asheville on the road. The Panthers also hold midweek sweeps over Wright State and La Salle.
