BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team will try and even its series at Campbell when the two teams meet on Saturday, May 14, at 3 p.m., in the second game of a three-game set at Jim Perry Stadium.
Junior
Andre Scrubb will take the mound for High Point on Saturday. Scrubb earned his seventh win of the season last weekend after giving up four runs, three earned in five innings while striking out eight against Radford. He is 7-4 overall with a 5.28 ERA and 80 strikeouts. The right-hander ranks in the top-10 in the conference in wins, strikeouts and opponent batting average and is 10th in the nation in K/9 innings. Grant Yost will face off with Scrubb on the mound. Yost is 6-3 with a 2.45 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 80-2/3 innings. He is second in the Big South in innings pitched, tied for fifth in earned run average and tied for ninth in strikeouts.
The Panthers dropped the first game of the weekend, 4-3, despite outhitting the Camels by two in the contest.
Redshirt-senior
Scot Hoffman dropped to 5-4 on the season with the loss after giving up four runs in six innings. Hoffman gave up six hits and two walks while striking out three. It is just his second loss of the season in conference play.
Nick Thayer allowed three runs, one earned, in 7-2/3 innings to pick up his eighth win of the season for Campbell. The right-hander gave up eight hits and a walk and struck out two. Erik Dowse got the final four outs to earn his fifth save in 2016.
High Point put the tying run aboard in each of the final three innings, but was unable to bring him home as the Panthers stranded nine on the bases in the game.
Redshirt-junior
Tim Mansfield finished 2-3 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored while sophomore
Austen Zente went 2-5 with a run scored in the loss.
