COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The High Point University baseball team will face off with Maryland in the rubber game of a three-game weekend series on Sunday, April 3, at 1 p.m., in College Park, Md.
Freshman
Andrew Gottfried will try and get back on track when he takes the mound for HPU on Sunday. The right-hander allowed five runs, four earned, in 3-2/3 innings against Winthrop last weekend and is now 2-2 with a 3.51 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 25-2/3 innings of work. Right-hander Brian Shaffer will take the mound for Maryland. Shaffer is 3-1 with a 2.39 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 37-2/3 innings.
High Point fell to Maryland in the second game of the weekend by a score of 13-5 on Saturday. The Panthers fell behind by a score of 10-0 after three innings and were unable to make up the gap.
Junior
Andre Scrubb suffered the loss for High Point and dropped to 5-2 on the season. Scrubb pitched just 1-2/3 innings and gave up six runs, three earned, on one hit and seven walks with one strikeout.
Taylor Bloom allowed four runs in 5-2/3 innings and improved to 4-2 for the Terps. Bloom allowed 11 hits and struck out two.
Three different HPU hitters finished with three hits on the day as junior
Josh Greene went 3-4 with a home run, a double and three runs scored, sophomore
Hunter Lee went 3-5 with a double and two RBI and junior
Drew Fopeano finished 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
