COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The High Point University baseball team will go for its sixth-straight series win on Saturday, April 2, when it takes on Maryland in College Park, Md., at 2 p.m. The Panthers took the first game of the series with a 7-2 win.
Junior
Andre Scrubb will go for his sixth-straight win on Saturday. The right-hander is 5-1 on the season with a 3.44 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 36-2/3 innings. He enters the weekend second in the Big South in strikeouts and has double-digit punch-outs in each of his last two starts. Right-hander Tyler Bloom is slatted to face off with Scrubb. Bloom is 3-2 with a 1.84 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 44 innings.
High Point jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the Terrapins on Friday and never looked back, picking up the 7-2 win. Sophomore
Hunter Lee went 2-5 and hit his first home run of the season.
Redshirt-senior
Scot Hoffman picked up his third win of the season and improved to 3-2. Hoffman allowed two earned runs on seven hits and a two walks in 5-2/3 innings of work with three strikeouts.
Junior
Jeremy Johnson retired the final 11 batters in a row to earn his first collegiate save. Johnson pitched 3-1/3 scoreless innings and struck out two.
Mike Shawaryn gave up three earned runs in 3-2/3 innings to take the loss for Maryland, dropping to 2-3 on the season. The right-hander gave up three hits and a walk and struck out five.
Lee finished 2-5 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored while junior
Drew Fopeano went 2-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore
Austen Zente scored two runs and swiped his league-leading 17th bag of the season and senior
Tim Mansfield stole two bags and scored a run in the win.
