BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team will try and avoid its first weekend series sweep of the season when it takes on Gardner-Webb in the weekend finale on Sunday, April 17, at 2 p.m., in Boiling Springs, N.C.
Freshman
Andrew Gottfried gets the start on the mound on Sunday, his seventh start of the season. Gottfried picked up the win against Longwood to improve to 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 37-1/3 innings. He matched his career-high in innings pitched and struck out a career-high eight in the win over the Lancers. Bradley Hallman will get the ball for Gardner-Webb. Hallman is 4-2 with a 3.83 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched.
The Panthers dropped the series with a 3-1 loss at Gardner-Webb on Saturday. Junior
Chris Clare got HPU's only hit in the contest, connecting for his first home run of the season.
Junior
Andre Scrubb took the loss for the Panthers and dropped to 6-3 for the season. Scrubb gave up three earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out nine in his six innings of work.
Jeremy Walker pitched a complete game to improve to 5-4 for Gardner-Webb. Walker allowed just one earned run on one hit and one walk and struck out four.
