BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team will try to even its weekend series at Gardner-Webb when the teams meet in the second game on Saturday, April 16, at 2 p.m., in Boiling Springs, N.C.
Junior
Andre Scrubb will take the mound for HPU on Saturday in his ninth start of the season. The right-hander is 6-2 with a 3.69 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 46-1/3 innings. He has double-digit strikeouts in three of his last four starts, including 11 in eight innings against Longwood. Right-hander Jeremy Walker will start for Gardner-Webb. Walker is 4-4 with a 5.08 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 51-1/3 innings.
High Point was limited to just four hits in a 9-0 loss to the Runnin' Bulldogs on Friday night. Sophomore
Hunter Lee went 2-4 with a double while senior
Dominic Fazio finished 1-2 with a walk.
Redshirt-senior
Scot Hoffman took the loss for the Panthers and dropped to 3-3 on the season. Hoffman allowed four earned runs on five hits and three walks in 6-1/3 innings and struck out four. The right-hander left the game in the seventh having allowed just two earned runs, but two inherited runs scored after his departure.
Brad Haymes threw a complete-game shutout and earned his seventh win of the season, improving to 7-1. Haymes allowed just four hits and a walk and struck out 12.
