HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team will face off with Longwood in the rubber game of a three-game weekend series on Sunday, April 10, at 1 p.m. in Williard Stadium. The Panthers evened the series with a 7-2 win on Saturday.
Freshman
Andrew Gottfried will make his sixth start of the season for HPU in the series finale on Sunday. Gottfried is 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 30-1/3 innings of work. The right-hander allowed three earned runs on six hits and a walk in 4-2/3 innings and struck out four against Maryland.
Junior
Andre Scrubb matched his career high with 11 strikeouts in the Panthers' 7-2 win on Saturday. The right-hander allowed just two earned run on three hits and three walks in eight innings of work and improved to 6-2 on the season. He gave up just one hit after the first inning and posted double-digit strikeouts for the third time in four games.
Ryan Jones took the loss for Longwood on the mound and dropped to 1-2 on the season after giving up three runs in one inning of work out of the bullpen. Lancer starter Steven Farkas pitched 3-1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three.
Senior
Dominic Fazio reached on all four of his plate appearances, finishing 3-3 with a walk and a career-high four RBI on the night. Sophomore
Austen Zente went 2-4 with a double, a home run and two runs scored and junior
Josh Greene went 1-2 with two walks and two RBI. Sophomore
Hunter Lee and junior
Chris Clare joined Zente with two runs scored as the top three in the HPU lineup finished 4-11 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch and six runs scored.
